Art rock, with its emphasis on experimentation and pushing boundaries, is a genre that has given rise to some truly innovative bands, and Legss are certainly one of them. This London-based quartet, formed in 2018 by Ned Green and Max Oliver, has been making waves in the music scene with their intricate guitar work, spoken monologues, and a rhythm section that is both precise and unruly. The band's sound is a true reflection of their roots, drawing on influences such as The Clash, Japan, and This Heat, as well as the music hall act Dan Leno.

Legss' story began when Green and Oliver, then students at Goldsmiths, started rehearsing together under the name Self Help. They were later joined by bassist Jake Martin and drummer Louis Grace, completing the lineup that would go on to create some truly captivating music. The band's debut EP, Writhing Comedy, was released in 2019, accompanied by a short book produced by the band, and was followed by two more EPs, Doomswayers and Fester. Their debut album, Unreal, was released in September 2025 to critical acclaim, with Clash giving it 8/10 and Stereogum naming the band among the best new artists of 2025.

Unreal marked a new chapter in the band's sound, with the introduction of brass and live strings, aiming for a sense of operatic scale while keeping their tension and abrasive dynamics. The album explores themes of miscommunication, estrangement, and the uncanny, reflecting the band's love-hate relationship with London and their interest in the writings of Mark Fisher. With guest performances by Lottie Pendlebury, Felix Stephens, and Nat Philipps, Unreal is a testament to the band's ability to create complex, thought-provoking music that is both challenging and rewarding.
