School of Clowns Course

An exciting opportunity to work with master clown Chris Cresswell in an in-depth exploration of the art and practice of clown, mask and physical comedy theatre.
Theatre Royal Brighton
This fascinating six-week course brings together clowning, mask work and mime to explore the creation of dynamic physical comedy performance. Through weekly two-hour sessions, participants will work with the neutral mask, the transformational power of the red nose, and a range of established character masks to develop skills in improvisation, character creation and comic performance. Sessions combine practical exploration with focused feedback in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Designed for actors, theatre-makers, musicians, dancers and circus performers, the course offers a unique opportunity to research and develop theatrical clowning techniques while discovering the expressive possibilities of mask theatre. Participants will investigate timing, presence, playfulness and performance through physically led approaches, using neutral masks and masks developed by Trestle Theatre.
Whether you are new to clowning or looking to deepen your existing practice, this course offers an inspiring space to experiment, take risks and develop your performance skills alongside fellow artists and performers.
