Ocean Futures (picture: Hastings Contemporary)

Hastings Contemporary is a coastal gallery with a bold mission to explore ocean futures and sustainability through its artistic programme. The gallery is situated on Hastings' historic fishing beach and brings together artists, scientists, fishermen, and local communities to address the challenges facing the oceans. The programme includes exhibitions, public events, learning activities, and partnerships to inspire new ways of thinking and creating. Some of the exhibitions and events include Pearls of the Sea, a flagship schools programme, The Sun Feeds the Wind, which preserves the stories of the Hastings Fishing Fleet, and Art for Your Oceans, which features new works in seaweed ink. The gallery also has a Mobile Studio, which offers workshops and creative experiences throughout the town and wider region. The ambition of the gallery is to reimagine what a gallery by the sea can be, a place where art, climate, and community meet.
