_“I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car, I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick, it even makes my rhyme. I hate the way you’re always right, I hate it when you lie, I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you’re not around and the fact that you didn’t call but…

[8.8/10] There’s a funny thing about these updated, transmogrified Shakespeare adaptations like *10 Things I Hate About You*. If you didn’t know better, you could call the plots convoluted. There is a complicated web of relationships and deceptions, to the point that you practically need a diagram to explain it properly. In short, Michael helps his friend Cameron woo Bianca by convincing Joey to pay Patrick to date Kat, because Bianca, per her…

Wild that such a basic movie has so much hype behind it Young Joseph Gordon-Levitt was cute, the performances were decent overall, and of course the clothes and overall aesthetics were great But the plot? Meh. Super unoriginal and I feel like Bianca got a redemption arc without any work from her whatsoever, thus her "happy ending" felt unearned.

Not enough modern day retellings of Shakespeare plays have dick jokes. 10 Things I Hate About You sets itself above all the others in this regard.

Watching 10 Things I Hate About You again reminded me why this movie still works so well. I’ve always been a huge fan of Heath Ledger, and every rewatch feels a little bittersweet knowing how much talent was lost too soon. The story itself is simple: Kat Stratford, an outspoken and emotionally guarded teenager, ends up getting close to Patrick Verona, the mysterious bad-boy type who was originally paid to date her. Predictably messy? Yes.…
