In the vibrant streets of Rio de Janeiro, a classic myth is reimagined with a bossa nova beat, as Black Orpheus sets the tone for a series of music-themed films at the Electric Palace. The cinema, in partnership with Hidden Beach's Summer of Culture, will screen a collection of films that celebrate the universal language of music, including documentaries about reunited Cuban musicians, a pivotal Harlem festival, and a South African search for a musical hero, as well as a cult reggae sound clash story set in 80s London.
The series will feature Buena Vista Social Club, Summer of Soul, Searching for Sugar Man, and Babylon, each offering a distinct perspective on the role of music in different cultures and eras. Following the screenings, conversations hosted by Remi Vibesman will delve into the themes and stories presented in the films.
On Wednesday, 28 October 2026, at the Electric Palace Hastings in Hastings, the first of these screenings will take place, marking the beginning of a cultural exchange that will continue until Sunday, 29 August 2027. Tickets or details for the screenings can be found with the button beside this article.
