Straight Talk: A Tribute to Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton was iconic in the truest sense of the word and, for many of us, her death at the age of 80 was a devastating blow. In parallel with her stellar musical career and life as a generous philanthropist, Parton was also an acclaimed actor. This month we remember her with a rare screening of Straight Talk, showing the sass and sweetness Dolly was so famous for off-screen. This romantic comedy from 1992 plays on a case of mistaken identity. Shirlee Kenyon is fired as a dance instructor for giving too much life coaching to her clients. Tired of small-town life, she moves to Chicago, where instead of starting her new job as a radio receptionist, she goes live with her advice to dial-in listeners. Much to the chagrin of her boss, played by Griffin Dunne, she becomes an overnight success, but will her lack of credentials backfire on everyone? Shown as part of our Remembrance Sunday strand.
