Dir: Jane Schoenbrun
Cast: Hannah Einbinder, Jack Haven, Gillian Anderson
112 minutes · 2026 · USA · Cert 15
An uber-meta, slasher horror-comedy that explores gender and queerness and features a showstopping turn by Gillian Anderson. We’re calling instant classic!
Hacks star Hannah Einbinder is a young filmmaker, tasked with rebooting the horror franchise she’s obsessed with. Her first job? To persuade the original film's reclusive star (Gillian Anderson) back to the big screen. The star who now lives in the remote disused camp that was used as a location in the first film.
Director Jane Schoenbrun cements their status as the one of the most exciting new voices in cinema with this astonishing and sexy open-hearted ride into cult horror films and the space that media occupies within us.
Similar to their previous films We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow, Schoenbrun’s latest feature demonstrates a remarkable sensitivity to our relationships with new media and the intimate ways it shapes our identity.
It’s a visual feast, popping with nostalgia and a generous helping of gore. Einbinder shares a sparkling chemistry with Gillian Anderson, who is fabulous as the Norma Desmond-esque Billy.
Strange, funny, and a knowing love letter to slasher horror, sex and cinema.
