The true story of an unlikely alliance between gay and lesbian activists and striking miners in the 1980s. The story is uplifting, smart and has sharp period detail.
In the summer of 1984, a group of LGBT activists decided to raise money to support the National Union of Mineworkers during their lengthy strike. However, the NUM appeared to be reluctant to take up the support. This film is a joyous and uplifting culture-clash crowd-pleaser that is never overly sentimental.
The film has received positive reviews, with Mark Kermode of The Guardian saying he laughed, cried and would have raised a clenched fist if his hands were not occupied wiping away tears of joy.
