A Christmas Carol

9 Dec 2026 – 12 Dec 2026

Kino-Teatr (St Leonards-on-Sea)

On Wednesday, 9 December 2026, the Kino-Teatr in St Leonards-on-Sea will screen Robert Zemeckis' 2009 animated adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. This film, which features Jim Carrey as the voice of Ebenezer Scrooge and the three ghosts who visit him, is a unique retelling of the classic tale. The story follows Scrooge as he is awakened on Christmas Eve by the spirits, who reveal to him his own miserable existence and the dire fate that awaits him if he does not change his ways.

The film, which was directed, written, and co-produced by Zemeckis, features a motion-captured and voice cast that includes Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, and Robin Wright. The animation was created through the process of motion-capture, a technique used in ImageMovers' previous animated films, including The Polar Express and Beowulf. The film's score was composed by Alan Silvestri, who has worked with Zemeckis on several previous films.

A Christmas Carol has received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising its visuals and performances, while others have criticized its dark tone and script. The film has a 52% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 6/10, and a score of 55 out of 100 on Metacritic. However, viewers have been more positive, with a rating of 6.9/10 on TMDB and 72% on Trakt. The film was also a commercial success, grossing $325.3 million worldwide, although it was considered a box office disappointment due to its high production and marketing costs.

The Kino-Teatr in St Leonards-on-Sea will screen A Christmas Carol from Wednesday, 9 December 2026, until Saturday, 12 December 2026. Tickets are on sale: say tickets are with the button beside the article. This is a great opportunity to see a unique and visually stunning adaptation of a classic tale on the big screen. With its dark tone and themes, this film is not just a festive treat, but also a thought-provoking exploration of the human condition.

Jim Carrey does a good Scrooge but him doing all the ghosts is a little much. His face on the ghost of Christmas past was a little distracting. Overall the movie is so-so, I'm not a huge fan of the Charles Dickens story though.

I've never seen other Christmas Carol adaptations and I don't need to because this is the definitive Christmas Carol for me! It's so fantastic and there is that sort of nostalgia I have with the film. Although it's not advertised as a horror film, it pretty much is if you've seen it. I remember watching it the first time as a kid and had trouble sleeping and was scared to go to the bathroom for weeks because how devastatingly creepy it was. Even…

Why call 'The Exorcist' the scariest horror ever made when Robert Zemeckis 'A Christmas Carol' exist. Season's greetings from hell! One of the most ugliest and horrifying Christmas movies out there. However, I respect it in some strange way. There's nothing like it. It's weirdly in the same vein as Tom Hooper's horror masterpiece 'Cats', in terms of CGI and having an identity crisis.

Jim Carrey as Scrooge isn't bad. As the 3 ghosts is a distraction though. This probably is the most visually stunning version. Just not the best.

I’m a big fan of the Polar Express with it actually being my absolute favourite Christmas movie of all time so there was a pretty high chance that I would love this too as it’s pretty much the same animation style and I know a ton of people hate this style but it’s not even that bad honestly and people overreact way too much about it, I mean if anything’s it’s actually quite unique I think. I’m a big fan of the story of The Christmas Carol…

Though it’s one of the most adapted literary works, _Disney’s A Christmas Carol_ delivers a uniquely daring and bold vision that emphasizes the darker aspects of the story. Yet even with the darker take, the film stays remarkably faithful to the novel; especial in regards to the dialog. In fact, this adaption includes several aspects of Dickens’ tale that are often overlooked; such as the religious undertones. However, the animation style…

How this movie has low ratings i do not understand. If you don't like charles dickens story then its not for you and you aren't giving it a fair rating. Other adaptations hold back on the darker tones but this one does not. It is darker and more unsettling than other versions which is more in line with the book. The animation is of course a little dated now but to be perfectly honest this one is hands down my favorite above all the rest. When it…
