Bellowhead Celebrate 20 Years
English folk band Bellowhead are marking a major milestone with a tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album Burlesque. The eleven-piece outfit will bring their unique blend of traditional and modern folk sounds to the stage.
Their debut album Burlesque, released in 2006, features songs like _London Town_ and _Frog’s Legs_, showcasing the band's ability to blend traditional English folk music with a modern big-band sound. This distinctive sound has been a hallmark of the band's career, which has included the release of four more studio albums and numerous awards, including eight BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Bellowhead's origins date back to 2004, when John Spiers and Jon Boden were stuck in a traffic jam on tour and began brainstorming ideas for a new project. They invited friends to join, and the band quickly grew to a ten-piece, later expanding to eleven with the addition of percussion and a four-piece brass section. This eclectic lineup has been a key factor in the band's success, allowing them to create a rich and dynamic sound that sets them apart from other folk acts.
On Monday, 16 November 2026, Bellowhead will perform at the Brighton Dome in Brighton, celebrating the 20th anniversary of Burlesque. Tickets are with the button beside the article. With their unique sound and energetic live performances, Bellowhead is sure to deliver an unforgettable show, featuring special guest kora player Seckou Keita and Sons of Town Hall.
