Chair Swap Chaos
A woman swaps lives with a chair in this absurd comedy, and things get weird. With its unique blend of deadpan humour and surrealist flourishes, By Design is a film that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
In a bizarre twist, the main character Camille swaps forms with a gorgeous chair, and as the chair, she becomes better liked by those around her. This modern fable, narrated by Melanie Griffith, celebrates the messiness of female interiority with a unique blend of humour, surrealist flourishes, and interpretative dance numbers.
By Design is the brainchild of singular filmmaker Amanda Kramer, and features a talented cast, including Juliette Lewis, Mamoudou Athie, and Robin Tunney. The film is part of the Independent Visions series, a regular film night that champions modern independent North American filmmaking, curated by Brighton-based film distributors, Bulldog Films.
The screening will take place on Thursday, 17 December 2026, at the Electric Palace Hastings in Hastings. Tickets are with the button beside the article, so be sure to grab yours and experience this bold new work for yourself. With its absurdist spin on the body-swap comedy, By Design is sure to be a memorable and entertaining watch.
