As a movie The Magic Faraway tree managed to capture the whimsy and nonsense that existed in the original source material whilst updating it to a modern setting where kids are more likely to own an iPad than walk in the woods alone. The setting and visuals are stand out here, with attention paid to the fantasical nature of the world without losing itself in CGI. The acting can be a bit overdone in parts but for the whole this is a movie your…

I enjoyed the bits where they improved their home and garden etc. I thought the Faraway Tree bits were like watching a shit kids TV program. Actual children will probably love it.

Esse filme me passou a vibe de dois filmes da minha infância: As Crônicas de Spiderwick e Ponte para Terabítia, com uma carga emocional menor que a do último citado. All in all a nice well made modern fairytale movie. Unfortunately, it is a bit too childish to be fully appealing to most adults. Though it is really nice for kids and also Ok for adults who like light, childish entertainment. I find it a bit regrettable that they did not make a little extra effort in order to make it more appealing to adults.

Loved it. Had so much emotional gut punch and good vibe feelings that it reminded me of The Secret Garden and even Bridge to Terabithia (that ones more of a traumatic emotional body slam). I kind of wish it had a bit more of a Disney life lesson feel for the kids but it’s a lovely feel good family film.

We used to have loads of this author’s books at home when we were kids, and I always thought her signature on the cover said Gnid, rather than Enid. Now fifty years or so later, her stories don’t always stand the test of time or attitudes, but this one is an entertaining fantasy that has been updated to take aim, fairly and squarely, at modern day obsessions with technology. The “Thompson” family have fallen on hard times and so have relocated…
