The Hope & Ruin (Brighton)
Francis Murray's debut solo album Dreamer is a testament to her skill as a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, with songs that pair candid lyrics with guitar-led indie rock. The album, released on 10 April 2026, was made in collaboration with Ted Groves in a studio at the music education provider where the two met. Murray's music draws on a range of influences, from the raw energy of Third Eye Blind and Alex G to the tenderness of Big Thief and Boygenius.
Murray's earlier music, released under the project name BLAB, was more punk-leaning, but her solo work has seen her develop a distinctive sound that is both witty and introspective. Her songs often explore themes of identity and autonomy, with tracks like 'The Woods' building to an agitated chorus about a lack of self-autonomy. With her guitar sound drawing comparisons to Pavement and Kurt Vile, Murray is an exciting new talent in the music scene.
Francis Murray will be performing at The Hope & Ruin in Brighton on Thursday, 12 November 2026, as part of the H&R ONE'S 2 WATCH event, alongside Sunlifter, Pointless Waste of Dopamine, and Marla. Tickets are on sale: say tickets are with the button beside the article.
