Royal Tunbridge Wells Theatre Hosts Raleigh
Dyad Productions presents a one-man show about the life of Sir Walter Raleigh, a famous Elizabethan explorer and favourite of Elizabeth I. The production, written and performed by Andrew Margerison, offers a sharp retelling of Raleigh's life, adding depth to the man and period.

On Sunday, 8 November 2026, the Trinity Theatre in Royal Tunbridge Wells will host Dyad Productions' one-man show, That Knave, Raleigh, a 75-minute monologue that explores the life of Sir Walter Raleigh, a famous Elizabethan explorer, sailor, and favourite of Elizabeth I. Written and performed by Andrew Margerison, who has a background in working with companies such as Complicite and Frantic Assembly, the show promises to offer a sharp retelling of Raleigh's life, adding depth to the man and period.
The production is the result of a collaboration between Margerison and director Rebecca Vaughan, who founded Dyad Productions in 2009. Vaughan's approach to historical storytelling is characterized by a commitment to accuracy, with a philosophy of "invent nothing, deny nothing", allowing the extraordinary characters of the past to speak for themselves. Margerison's fascination with Raleigh began when he read a book about him, and he was struck by how much he had not known, especially about the last two months of Raleigh's life.
The show's simple yet effective set, designed by Martin Tucker, features a chair, table, and footstool, with an illuminated backdrop, while the costumes, created by Ninya Mikhaila, include embellished doublets, embroidered cloaks, and Elizabethan ruffs. The production has been praised by reviewers for its ability to add depth to the man and period, with Margerison's performance bringing Raleigh to life in a powerful and moving way.
That Knave, Raleigh is a must-see for anyone interested in history, theatre, or the life of Sir Walter Raleigh. The show will be performed at the Trinity Theatre in Royal Tunbridge Wells on Sunday, 8 November 2026, at 5pm, and tickets are with the button beside the article. With its unique approach to storytelling and its commitment to historical accuracy, Dyad Productions' That Knave, Raleigh is an event not to be missed.
