DakhaBrakha originated in Kyiv, Ukraine, where they were formed in 2004 as a daughter project of the Dakh Contemporary Arts Center. The band began as a live theatre music group, with their name deriving from the Ukrainian verbs for 'give' and 'take'. The current members are Marko Halanevych, Olena Tsybulska, Iryna Kovalenko and Nina Harenetska, all of whom, except Halanevych, are graduates of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.

Their music is a fusion of traditional Ukrainian folk songs with pop, punk, electronica, hip hop and soul, which they term "ethno-chaos". This unique sound has led to them performing at numerous prestigious festivals, including Glastonbury and Bonnaroo, where they were named Best Breakout by Rolling Stone in 2014. They have also released several albums, including Na dobranich, Yahudky, and Ptakh, and have worked on soundtracks for films such as Porcelain War and Mavka: The Forest Song.

DakhaBrakha will be performing at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts in Brighton on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, with support from Bunty. Tickets are with the button beside the article.
