Teacher Network – Info Session!
7 Nov 2026 – 7 Dec 2026
Gulbenkian Arts Centre (Canterbury)
The Gulbenkian Arts Centre, based in Canterbury, Kent, has its roots in the University of Kent campus, where it has established itself as a hub for artistic and cultural activities. The centre is now setting up a Teacher Network, a space where teachers can work together with the Gulbenkian team to create exciting opportunities for classes and young people. This network aims to support teachers and give them a voice in shaping the opportunities and activities offered, ensuring that they are tailored to the needs of local students.
The online information session, scheduled for Monday 7 December from 4pm to 5pm, will introduce the network and share ideas on how teachers can get involved. This session is open to all teachers, regardless of their subject specialty, and will provide a chance for them to connect with the Gulbenkian team and share their thoughts on what they need to support their students. The network's goal is to bring together teachers from across Kent, allowing the Gulbenkian to hear their ideas, understand the challenges they face, and give them a say in shaping its activities.
The Gulbenkian Arts Centre has a strong commitment to youth work, as evident in its ART31 initiative, which takes its name from Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This initiative is created with, by, and for young people in Kent, and its Youth Board is composed of individuals aged 13 to 25 from across the county. The centre's youth offer includes a range of programs, such as ART31 Generate, Youth Theatre, and SCREEN31, all designed to provide young people with opportunities to engage in cultural and artistic activities.
The Teacher Network is a natural extension of the Gulbenkian's youth work, as it seeks to support teachers in providing their students with similar opportunities. By working together with teachers, the Gulbenkian aims to create a more collaborative and effective approach to supporting young people in Kent. The online information session on Monday 7 December is the perfect opportunity for teachers to learn more about the network and get involved. The event will take place on Monday 7 December at the Gulbenkian Arts Centre in Canterbury. Tickets are with the button beside the article.
The Gulbenkian's work in Medway will also be shared during the online session, providing teachers with a broader understanding of the centre's activities and how they can benefit their students. With its strong focus on youth work and community engagement, the Gulbenkian Arts Centre is well-positioned to make a positive impact on the lives of young people in Kent, and the Teacher Network is an exciting new development in this effort.
