Gulbenkian Arts Centre (Canterbury)
Nielsen's Quartet No. 2 is just one example of the diverse repertoire that the Cordelia Quartet has performed since its concert debut at the RCM Museum in February 2025. This ensemble of students from the Royal College of Music in London, drawn from four countries across North America, Europe, and the Middle East, has already gained recognition for its versatility and talent.
The Cordelia Quartet's name honours Cordelia, the youngest daughter in Shakespeare's King Lear, a character defined by conviction and generosity of spirit. The group receives regular coaching from esteemed musicians, including Simon Rowland-Jones, Ben Hancox of the Sacconi Quartet, and Paul Cassidy of the Brodsky Quartet. Their repertoire spans many periods and genres, from classical works by Beethoven and Shostakovich to contemporary pieces.
On Sunday, 22 November, the Cordelia and Mirari String Quartets will perform at the Gulbenkian Arts Centre in Canterbury. The programme includes Haydn and Mozart quartets, as well as Mendelssohn's Octet, which will be performed together by both quartets. The event will also feature the world premiere of Matthew Brown's octet for strings, especially commissioned for CMC's 85th Season. Tickets are with the button beside the article.
