Mozart's Mischievous Opera
A classic opera of love and deception comes to Brighton. The Royal Opera's production of Cosi Fan Tutte is a sharp contemporary take on Mozart's 18th-century comedy of manners.

RBO Encore 2026-27: Cosi Fan Tutte
1 Feb 2027 – 26 Feb 2027
Duke of York's Picturehouse (Brighton)
Originating from a bet between two young men, the story of Cosi Fan Tutte revolves around a test of fidelity, plunging four lovers into a world of shifting reality and unstable truth. The opera, first performed in 1790, has been reimagined by Netia Jones, Associate Director of The Royal Opera, through a contemporary lens, blending 18th-century romantic trickery with high-tech deceit.
The production features an exciting young cast, including Louise Alder, Simone McIntosh, Mingjie Lei, and Huw Montague Rendall, as the lovers, with Gerald Finley as the manipulative Don Alfonso and Emily Pogorelc as Despina. Thomas Hengelbrock conducts the opera, highlighting the exquisite melodies that underpin the provocative themes.
The event will take place at the Duke of York's Picturehouse in Brighton from Monday, 1 February 2027, until Friday, 26 February 2027. Tickets are with the button beside the article.
