Didn't expect the violence at all. I was under the impression it would be a fantastic fantasy film and I was wrong. It just was something COMPLETELY different than what I thought it would be.

"Pan's Labyrinth" is a simple but heartful film that beautifully combines dark fantasy, mild horror and semi-realistic war drama in a truly unique atmosphere. It has been criticized for being a bit too simplistic and melodramatic, but if you take it as the allegoric fairytale it is supposed to be, I actually found it as one of the few successful attempts at transposing such a genre into adult cinema. This is an amazing fairy tale. It looks incredible. It's both heartwarming and spooky. There's so much to try and absorb. I always feel like I need to watch it again because I keep thinking I'm not seeing everything I should be. The plight of little Ofelia is so sad that it does take away from my enjoyment of the film. [spoiler]Tbh, the only reason i found and watch this show was coz i found a gif of the part where she was with the monster sitting by the "buffet table" Lotsa people were also saying how good it was so i decided to give it a shot,…

Guillermo del Toro creates a unique mix here, who knew civil war stuff could mix with dark fantasy—or can it be stitched together? I really enjoyed parts of this but i'm not sure I like everything together. The movie works when the two storylines are split, I enjoyed the first two acts with the back and forth between fantasy and civil war brutality they were both interesting but when they meet in the second half I think the magic dies. It also…
