At the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts in Brighton, visitors will experience a film installation that links the human body with the body of ice, known as a glacier, through dance, spoken word, and scientific imagery. The film's narrative recounts historic events revealed within ice cores, which hold bubbles of air preserved from the Earth's atmosphere from up to 2.7 million years ago.

The installation, titled 'Witness', was created by Brighton-based artist Emma Critchley during her time on the Earth Water Sky environmental art and science residency programme at Science Gallery Venice. Critchley worked with a team of climate scientists on the Ice Memory Project, a global initiative to create an archive of ice cores from rapidly disappearing glaciers.

The sound design for 'Witness' was created by award-winning composer Nicolas Becker, and the installation has been reworked as a three-screen installation for its UK premiere at Brighton Festival. On Thursday, 13 May 2027, 'Witness' will be shown at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts in Brighton, and tickets are on sale with the button beside the article.
