Rats Nest Bring Turbulent Sound to Margate
After a near year hiatus, Rats Nest are back with their unique blend of aggressive musicianship and emotional lyrics. The Margate-based melodic punk trio is set to perform at Where Else? alongside Few Thoughts and Tarmac.
Rats Nest's music is a testament to their roots in Margate, a town they describe as a 'deprived seaside town'. Formed in 2017, the trio has been making waves in the punk scene with their aggressive vocals, fast drums, and guitar solos. Their sound is a perfect reflection of their frustrations with the modern world and its injustices, as expressed by guitarist and vocalist Adam Pullman. With a discography that includes two EPs released in 2018, Rats Nest has established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the melodic punk genre.
Their music is characterized by its turbulent speed, emotional lyrics, and anthemic choruses. Singles like 'A Family Portrait in Black and Gray' and 'Yesterday's Song' showcase the band's ability to craft catchy and meaningful songs. The former, which compares family trauma to Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, has become a staple of their live sets, while the latter was released in 2024 with a music video that gained recognition at the Folkestone Film Festival. With their unique sound and thought-provoking lyrics, Rats Nest is sure to deliver an unforgettable performance.
Rats Nest has shared bills with notable bands like Clobber, Maids of Ace, and Grade 2, and has received support from punk journalist Erin Micklow. Their return to the live scene is a highly anticipated event, especially considering their near year hiatus. The band's guitarist and vocalist, Adam Pullman, is a graduate of Pie Factory Music in Margate, which has played a significant role in shaping their sound.
The upcoming show at Where Else? in Margate on Sunday, 1 November 2026, is a showcase of the best Margate has to offer, with Rats Nest being joined by their good friends Few Thoughts and Tarmac. Tickets are with the button beside the article, so be sure to get yours and experience the turbulent sound of Rats Nest live. With their energetic and emotional performance, this is an event that is not to be missed, and a great opportunity to see some of the best local talent in action.
