Musicians' Hidden Artistic Talents Revealed

The fact that many of our most talented musicians are also skilled visual artists may come as a surprise to some, but it is this very intersection of music and art that the Super Cool Drawing Machine exhibition seeks to explore. On Sunday, 1 November 2026, the Where Else? venue in Margate will play host to this touring exhibition, which features an impressive array of works by musicians from diverse backgrounds, including alternative, experimental, jazz, folk, rock, and soul.

Among the artists showcased in the exhibition is the acclaimed British jazz musician and composer Shabaka Hutchings, who has risen to prominence with his innovative and eclectic sound. Born in London in 1984, Hutchings spent part of his childhood in Barbados before returning to the UK to study classical clarinet at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His subsequent career has been marked by numerous collaborations and awards, including a MOBO Award for best jazz act with Sons of Kemet in 2013. Hutchings' visual art, like his music, is characterized by its creativity and experimentation, offering a unique insight into the mind of this talented artist.

The Super Cool Drawing Machine exhibition is the brainchild of Yuppies Music, who aim to provide a platform for musicians to showcase their non-musical artistic talents. The exhibition features a wide range of works, including paintings, photography, drawings, ceramics, digital installations, and sculpture, demonstrating the diversity and creativity of the musicians involved. With artists such as Cate Le Bon, Richard Dawson, and Lonnie Holley also participating, this exhibition is a must-visit for anyone interested in the intersection of music and art.
