On Tuesday, 3 November 2026, and Wednesday, 4 November 2026, the Theatre Royal Brighton in Brighton will host The Brown Suite, a funk and soul dance-theatre production by choreographic duo BlacBrik. The show is set in a vibrant 1970s New York social space where seven lives collide, and friendships form, passions ignite, and hearts are broken as the characters find love, lose it, and search for their way back to one another.

At the heart of the show is a generation-defining soundtrack that fuels world-class dancers and exhilarating choreography, bringing the style and energy of the era to the stage. The music is drawn from legendary artists such as James Brown, Etta James, and Sam Cooke, and the choreography mixes modern dance, ballet, funk, and jazz, moving between full ensemble pieces and intimate duets. The show is a seated event, but audiences are encouraged to clap, whistle, and dance along in their seats.

The Brown Suite is the first full-length narrative work by BlacBrik, a transatlantic duo composed of Nahum McLean and Darius Drooh, who met at the Alvin Ailey School in New York in 2013 and founded the company in 2023. The production is recommended for ages eight and over and is part of a 12-venue UK tour. The creative team behind the show includes Joshie Harriette, Maybelle Laye, Max Marchment, and Mark Baldwin OBE as artistic adviser.

The show runs for about 90 minutes, including a 20-minute interval, and starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are with the button beside the article. With its unique blend of music, dance, and human connection, The Brown Suite is a celebration of the funk and soul era that is sure to leave audiences energized and inspired. The Brighton performances follow BlacBrik's sell-out Ballet Nights at the same venue earlier in 2026, and the show's education pack links it to drama, dance, and English, making it a great event for schools and families.
