Folkestone hosts Juliet Sargeant

Award-winning garden designer Juliet Sargeant will be joining Fergus Garrett, Head Gardener and Chief Executive of Great Dixter, for a conversation about the hidden foundations of life. The event, taking place on Saturday, 14 November 2026, at the Quarterhouse in Folkestone, will delve into the relationship between soil and biodiversity, and how gardeners can create healthier landscapes.

Juliet Sargeant's new book, Soil, reveals the crucial role healthy soil plays in the future of our gardens, biodiversity, food production, climate resilience, and human wellbeing. As the first Black woman to win a gold medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Sargeant has spent her career championing sustainable approaches to gardening and design.

The conversation will be chaired by Fergus Garrett, one of Britain's most respected horticulturists, who has transformed Great Dixter into a thriving haven for biodiversity. Together, Sargeant and Garrett will explore the extraordinary living systems beneath our feet and how gardeners can help create more resilient landscapes.
