Quarterhouse (Folkestone)

On Monday, 9 November, at the Quarterhouse in Folkestone, the Schools Events programme will kick off, featuring four brilliant authors over four days. The programme, curated by author and festival curator Sophie Haydock, is part of Creative Folkestone's mission to ensure every child has access to creativity, inspiration, and the magic of books, regardless of background.

The events are designed to do more than entertain, aiming to plant a seed of confidence and curiosity in young readers. Each day, a different author will present their work, including Ross MacKay, Hannah Moffatt, Onjali Q Raúf, and Michael Mann, with two sessions at 11am and 1pm.

The Primary School Series is open to primary schools in Folkestone and is completely free. To attend, tickets are with the button beside the article. The programme is part of the larger Folkestone Book Festival, which runs from 12 to 22 November 2026.

Sophie Haydock, the festival curator, has shaped a programme that includes the Primary School Series alongside headline events and the Local Authors Showcase. With a background in writing and curating, Haydock is well-suited to lead this initiative, which aims to build a generation of curious, confident, and creative young readers.

By attending these events, children will have the chance to meet authors, hear live readings, and be inspired by their stories, all while having fun. The Schools Events programme is a great opportunity for local primary schools to be a part of the Folkestone Book Festival and to encourage a love of reading and writing in their students.
