National Theatre Live The Motive and the Cue

Audiences will see a film of the play The Motive and the Cue, which tells the story of the challenges faced by Richard Burton and John Gielgud during the rehearsals for a Broadway production of Hamlet in 1964. The play is directed by Sam Mendes and features Mark Gatiss, Tuppence Middleton, and Johnny Flynn in the cast.

The story explores the collision of two ages of theatre as the experimental production progresses, and the collaboration between actor and director begins to unravel. The play was written by multi-award-winning writer Jack Thorne and was filmed live during its sold-out London run in 2023.

The Motive and the Cue will be screened at Vue Cinema Thanet - Westwood Cross, Cross, on Thursday, 18 February 2027. Tickets are with the button beside the article.
