Join the Spooky Story Sounds Workshop

Are you looking for a unique and engaging way to spend a Saturday morning with your family this Halloween? The Quarterhouse in Folkestone is hosting a Drop in Family Workshop, titled Spooky Story Sounds: Make, Create & Perform, where children can make their own spooky musical instruments and perform a live soundtrack to a reading of the classic children's book, 'Room on the Broom'.

This interactive workshop, led by composer and musician Joe Donaldson, encourages creativity, imagination, and musical exploration, giving children the chance to become part of the story as they create the sounds that help bring it to life. Using recycled and everyday materials, children will create unique instruments and discover how composers use sound to tell stories. Together, they'll explore magical melodies, eerie sound effects, and spooky rhythms before performing a live musical soundtrack to accompany the reading.

Joe Donaldson is a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist with a background in popular music studies and media composition. He has written original music for brands and organisations, including Expedia, Amnesty International, and the BBC, and has worked on various projects, including film, television, and live performance. With his expertise and guidance, children will have the opportunity to learn about music composition and performance in a fun and interactive way.

The workshop is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 31 October 2026, at the Quarterhouse in Folkestone. Tickets are with the button beside the article. This is a great opportunity for families to spend quality time together, encourage creativity and imagination in children, and enjoy a unique and engaging musical experience.

By attending this workshop, children will not only have fun creating their own musical instruments but also gain a deeper understanding of how music can be used to tell stories and bring characters to life. The workshop's focus on creativity, imagination, and musical exploration makes it an ideal activity for families looking for a unique and engaging way to celebrate Halloween.
