The Standard Lamps' album 'Sell Everything You Own' was initially recorded as the band was splitting up, but was later re-recorded with the new line-up from 2014. This album, along with their second release 'Long Lost Love', showcases the band's ability to craft guitar-led pop records that draw on influences from The Kinks, The Beatles, and Blur.
The band's sound is a blend of melodic pop hooks and a raw blues edge, earning them critical acclaim and comparisons to The Who. Pat Gilbert in MOJO magazine described them as 'The Who of 40 years ago', a testament to their energetic and captivating performances. The Standard Lamps have supported notable bands such as The Who, Wilko Johnson, The Bluetones, and The Pretty Things, further solidifying their reputation in the rock music scene.
The Standard Lamps are a three-piece band from Royal Tunbridge Wells, consisting of Mike Wilton on guitar and vocals, James Livett on bass, and Matt Bennie on drums. They will be performing at The Forum in Tunbridge Wells on Thursday, 10 December 2026. Tickets are with the button beside the article.
