Learn Still Life Oil Painting

On Friday, 6 November 2026, artist Gaven Alexander will lead a series of studio sessions at The Horsebridge Arts Centre in Whitstable, focusing on the fundamentals of still life oil painting. These sessions will run until Friday, 4 December 2026, and are designed to accommodate both beginners and those with more experience.

In each session, participants will learn about setting up compositions, capturing light, and using glazing techniques to create depth in their artwork. Gaven will provide guidance on getting the best out of oil paint as a medium, and all necessary materials will be provided. However, attendees are also invited to bring their own items to study, or they can choose from a selection of objects brought by Gaven.

Gaven's extensive experience, with over 30 years of painting and exhibitions in leading Kent galleries, ensures that participants will receive expert guidance and support. With sessions taking place once a month, there will be ample time for each layer of paint to dry, allowing attendees to create a still life painting they can be proud of.
