Jumpers For Goalposts Play

On Sunday, 1 November 2026, the New Venture Theatre in Brighton will start hosting the play Jumpers for Goalposts, which will run until Saturday, 20 February 2027, with the actual performances taking place from 12 to 20 February in The Studio.

What is the play about? Jumpers for Goalposts is a romantic comedy that follows the story of a gay and lesbian five-a-side football team, Barely Athletic, in Hull, and it focuses more on the team's everyday lives than on football.

Who is behind the play? Tom Wells, the playwright, is from Kilnsea, East Yorkshire, and graduated from Oxford University with a degree in English before attending a dramatic writing course at West Yorkshire Playhouse, and his work has been staged by several prominent theatres.

Why is it worth going? The play, directed by Richard Lindfield, is a straightforward comedy with gay characters, and it has been well-received internationally, including in Ireland and at Studio Theatre in Washington, and tickets are with the button beside the article.
