The play follows Jack and Algernon as they lead double lives, adopting the name "Ernest" to pursue the women they love, in a world of wit, romantic entanglements, and social conventions. With a fabulous cast, the play features Wilde's celebrated repartee and farce, including the formidable Lady Bracknell, wicked Jack and Algy, and the delightfully eccentric Miss Prism.
Oscar Wilde, the playwright, was an Irish author, poet, and playwright who became one of the most popular and influential dramatists in London in the early 1890s. He wrote The Importance of Being Earnest in late 1894, and it was first performed on 14 February 1895 at St James's Theatre in London. The play is known for its lighter tone and theme of invented identities, which sets it apart from his more serious works.
