Lucky Dube Remastered

Lucky Dube was born in Ermelo, Transvaal, now Mpumalanga, South Africa, in 1964, and began his musical career in the Zulu pop style mbaqanga with his cousin's band, the Love Brothers. He later turned to reggae in the 1980s, using its socio-political messages to speak against apartheid. His music quickly gained popularity, with his 1985 album Think About the Children reaching platinum sales in South Africa.

Dube's album House of Exile, originally released in 1991, served as a soundtrack to continental resistance, directly confronting the realities of the Group Areas Act and offering a poignant cautionary tale about the true nature of freedom. The album was a huge success, winning two OKTV Awards and cementing Dube's status as a leading reggae artist. His music continued to inspire and influence, with his 1993 album Victims selling over one million copies worldwide.

The 35th Anniversary remastered edition of House of Exile is a lovingly remastered release, pressed on special edition 'Roots Green' vinyl, and pays tribute to the profound legacy of one of South Africa's greatest reggae recordings. On Friday, 11 December 2026, SAMP Records will present this special edition at Resident Music, Brighton. Tickets are with the button beside the article.
