Royal Blood hail from Worthing, where the duo was formed in 2011 by Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher. The pair met as teenagers and regrouped after Kerr returned from Australia, with Kerr's original band having a different drummer. They were signed by Warner Chappell Music in 2013 and released their debut album, Royal Blood, in 2014, which became the fastest-selling British rock debut album in three years.

Their music is known for its heavy, pummelling sound, with Mike Kerr's signature bass playing using effects pedals and amps to create a sound like a guitar and a bass at the same time. The lead single from their new album, Ten Over Ten, brings desert rock heft and Motörhead-style force, with lyrics inspired by Kerr's marathon training and the physical demands of endurance. Royal Blood's sound has evolved over the years, with later records incorporating more dance and electronic sounds, thanks to touring musician Darren James' keyboards and synthesizers.

Royal Blood will be performing at Resident Music in Brighton on Friday, 6 November 2026. Tickets are with the button beside the article. Their new album, Dead Company, marks a powerful new chapter for the duo, with a sound that is raw, human, and visceral, capturing Royal Blood at their most powerful.
