Paul Sykes Returns to Family Patch

Zoe Cousin's journey as a comedian has taken her to various stages, but her latest show sees her bring her infamous character Paul Sykes back to his family roots. Paul Sykes, the lovable hardman from Wakefield, has been on quite a few adventures, from Paris to Panama City, and even Pyongyang. However, he's now back on familiar ground, and it's as if he never left.

This show, which won the Luke Rollason Memorial Bursary, is a testament to Cousin's skill as a character comedian. She has a knack for crafting characters that are both humorous and relatable, and Paul Sykes is no exception. With his tales of survival, self-discovery, and being a big fish in a big pond, Sykes is sure to entertain and educate his audience. As a regional finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards 2025 and a semi-finalist in So You Think You're Funny 2025, Cousin's credentials as a comedian are well-established.

Cousin's own TV appearances have also been notable, including a stint on BBC1's Bargain Hunt in 2021, where she made a memorable loss of £110. Although Paul Sykes has never been on Bargain Hunt, he did have a infamous run-in with David Dickinson in 1998 over a disputed catchphrase. The show's unique blend of humour and pathos has drawn praise from critics, with Chris Cantrill describing Zoe Cousin as "one of the most exciting character comedians on the circuit".

On Monday, 31 May 2027, the Caroline of Brunswick in Brighton will play host to Paul Sykes' homecoming. This is a rare opportunity to see Cousin's critically-acclaimed character in action, and one that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
