Brighton Dance Takeover Day

The fact that a dance company comprised entirely of performers aged 60 and above is set to take over a prominent arts centre is a remarkable one, and it is this that makes the upcoming Three Score Dance Takeover Day so intriguing. On Sunday, 22 November 2026, the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts in Brighton will play host to an afternoon of movement, music, and connection, as the company dancers showcase their talents in a series of performances and activities.

At the heart of the event are two performances: _JUTE_, choreographed by Takeshi Matsumoto, in which the dancers explore a twenty-metre jute rope with playfulness and imagination, and _BETWIXT_, which delves into the strange and vivid terrain of being in-between. These performances will be bookended by a daytime disco, featuring a live DJ, where attendees can dance, watch, or simply soak up the atmosphere. The event is designed to be an immersive and engaging experience, with something for all to enjoy.

The company's approach to dance is one that prioritises creativity and self-expression, and this will be explored in more depth in an optional Intergenerational Workshop add-on. This workshop will delve into the themes and ideas behind _JUTE_, and provide a unique insight into the company's approach to dance. The workshop will be a valuable opportunity for attendees to learn more about the company's work and to engage with the dancers and choreographers.

The Three Score Dance Takeover Day is a unique and exciting event that challenges traditional notions of dance and age. The fact that the company dancers are all aged 60 and above is a testament to the power of dance to bring people together and to transcend boundaries of age and ability. The event is a celebration of creativity, self-expression, and joy, and it is an opportunity not to be missed.

The event will take place on Sunday, 22 November 2026, at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts in Brighton. Tickets and further details are available with the button beside this article.
