Lewes Con Club hosts Dessie Magee

Dessie Magee's music career is a testament to his perseverance and dedication to his craft. Originally from outside Belfast in Northern Ireland, he is now based in Brighton, where he has developed a distinctive sound that blends rock, blues, punk, and soul. His voice, described as raspy and emotional, has drawn comparisons to Van Morrison and Frank Turner, and his music has been praised for its energetic and refined folk style.

Before becoming a singer-songwriter, Dessie Magee spent many years as a vocalist in the heavy underground music scene, which provided him with a positive outlet. However, his music career was put on hold when he underwent serious throat surgery, leaving him unable to speak for months. After a long rehabilitation process, he relearned speech and was able to sing again, eventually releasing his debut album, The Flat Circle, in February 2024. The album features The Dead Strings, and its tracks have been well-received by critics and audiences alike.

Dessie Magee's music is characterized by its raw, poetic passion, and his live performances are said to be energetic and powerful. He has supported notable artists like Van Morrison and The Wombats, and has won opportunities to record at Real World Studios and have his tracks featured on BBC Radio Introducing. His sound is a unique blend of Irish folk and rock, with a hint of punk and soul, making him a compelling artist to watch.
