Alabama 3 Unplugged

Alabama 3 originated in Brixton, London, in 1995, when Jake Black met Rob Spragg at a rave in Peckham. This chance encounter led to the formation of a band that would go on to create a distinctive sound, blending country music and acid house. Initially performing as the First Presleyterian Church of Elvis the Divine (UK), they later adopted the Alabama 3 name, which has become synonymous with their eclectic style.

The band's sound is a testament to their ability to merge different musical genres, creating a unique blend of electronic pop, country, and blues. This fusion has drawn comparisons to old-school blues and country traditions, while also incorporating modern elements. Their music is characterized by Larry Love's whiskey-soaked vocals, Devlin Love's soulful chorus, and Nick Reynolds' bad-ass blues on harmonica. With a discography that includes albums such as Exile on Coldharbour Lane, La Peste, and M.O.R., Alabama 3 have established themselves as a band that can seamlessly transition between different styles.

One of the band's most notable achievements is having their track Woke Up This Morning featured as the opening credits of the HBO series The Sopranos. This exposure helped to cement their reputation as a band that can create catchy, yet unconventional music. Their acoustic outings, including a 2007 tour, have shown a stripped-back side of the band, with a focus on the raw, emotional power of their music.

Alabama 3 Acoustic will be performing at the Lewes Con Club in Lewes on Sunday, 15 November 2026. Tickets are with the button beside the article. With their unique sound and energetic live performances, Alabama 3 Acoustic are sure to deliver a captivating show that will leave a lasting impression on their audience.

The band's ability to evolve and adapt has been evident throughout their career, with founding member Jake Black's passing in 2019 marking a significant change. However, Alabama 3 have continued to push boundaries and create music that is both a nod to their past and a step into the unknown. Their upcoming performance at the Lewes Con Club is a chance to experience their music in a new and intimate setting, with the acoustic format allowing for a deeper connection between the band and their audience.
