The Hope & Ruin (Brighton)

Mouth Ulcers, a London four-piece, will be performing at The Hope & Ruin in Brighton on Wednesday, 18 November 2026, alongside alligatr, O’Phantom, and Grimrite. The band, formed in 2025 by vocalist and guitarist Zak Watson, has been making waves with their distinctive sound, which draws inspiration from The Cure, Bauhaus, and Joy Division. With Josephine Rose on guitar and vocals, Jamie-Lee Culver on bass, and David Zbirka on drums, Mouth Ulcers create an urgent and intoxicating sound that combines atmospheric guitars, melodic basslines, and cavernous baritone vocals.

Their music is characterised by its dark, atmospheric tension, with themes of nostalgia, emotional suppression, and obsession. The band's debut EP, 'Silent Pictures', was released in July 2026 on LAB Records, and its lead single 'Prevail' earned praise from The Line of Best Fit and Louder Than War, as well as airplay on BBC 6 Music. Mouth Ulcers have also been described as creating music for vampires to dance to, with their sound blending the minimalism of Joy Division with the romantic gloom of The Cure and the intensity of Bauhaus.

Mouth Ulcers have been gaining momentum since their live debut in early 2026, playing various festivals including Get Together and Dot To Dot, and selling out London's Paper Dress Vintage. They have also announced their debut album, 'You're Not In Heaven', which is due for release on 23 April 2027 via LAB Records. With their unique sound and energetic live performances, Mouth Ulcers are definitely a band to watch.
