Eastbourne Dew Pond Benches
A new installation of four bespoke benches at the Warren Hill Dew Pond in Eastbourne offers a tranquil spot for rest and reflection. The benches, designed by Will Spankie, feature inscriptions by Alinah Azadeh and provide breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Visitors to the Warren Hill Dew Pond in Eastbourne will be able to sit and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding landscape from four new bespoke benches. The benches, designed and carved by East Sussex sculptor Will Spankie, are situated at the compass points around the dew pond and feature inscriptions written by artist and writer Alinah Azadeh. Each bench has been inscribed with a text entitled 'To the North', 'To the South', 'To the East', and 'To the West', referencing the views from each of the benches.
The project has been delivered by Towner as part of its ongoing commissioning programme of public realm artworks for Eastbourne, in collaboration with the Eastbourne Downland Group. Will Spankie, the sculptor behind the benches, is a trained artist who works mainly in stone and wood, taking on commissions for sculpture, garden ornament, seating, and lettering. He is also a skilled teacher, offering private and group lessons in stone carving and letter cutting.
The installation is open from Monday, 26 October 2026, until Thursday, 31 December 2026, at the Towner in Eastbourne. Tickets are with the button beside the article. The benches are easily accessible by foot, bike, or mobility vehicle, making them a great destination for people of all ages and abilities. With their beautiful craftsmanship and thought-provoking inscriptions, the Dew Pond Benches are a must-visit destination for anyone looking to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
