Hailing from Harlem, New York, Tschabalala Self has built a reputation for her figurative work, which often combines painting, printmaking, and sculpture.

• The Outside exhibition will run on the DLWP Lawns, offering a new display to complement Tschabalala Self's Seated, which has been on show since 2023. • Tschabalala Self's work is known for depicting Black female figures, using a range of materials including paint, fabric, and discarded pieces from her previous works. • Her bronze sculpture Seated, a figure of a Black woman on a chair, is a notable piece, evoking themes of rest, reflection, and leisure in the coastal context of the De La Warr Pavilion.

The De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea will host the Outside exhibition from Wednesday, 28 October 2026, until Thursday, 1 April 2027, at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea. Tickets are with the button beside the article. With Tschabalala Self's existing work on show, this new exhibition is set to be a highlight of the town's cultural scene, offering something new for visitors to enjoy alongside her acclaimed sculpture Seated.
