Lisa Hinkins, a Museum Educator at Brighton & Hove Museums and a PhD researcher at the University of Brighton, has been working tirelessly to uncover the hidden stories of lesbian lives in the museum's collections. • The exhibition features selected objects from Brighton & Hove Museums' collections, including a ceramic piece related to 18th-century actress Kitty Clive. • Visitors will also see artistic responses, including an automaton designed by Lisa Hinkins and her community volunteers, which tells the story of Brighton-born swimmer Harriet Elphinstone-Dick. • The exhibition is part of Lisa Hinkins' doctoral project, which examines the representation of lesbian lives in museum collections and cataloguing systems.
The exhibition 'Where are all the Lesbians?' will take place from Tuesday, 27 October 2026, to Sunday, 28 February 2027, at the Royal Pavilion, Brighton. Tickets are with the button beside the article. With her background in art history, material and visual culture, and museum studies, Lisa Hinkins brings a unique perspective to the exhibition, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in LGBTQ+ history and representation.
