Catherine Alsey, a British violinist from Kent, began learning the violin at the age of five and has since gone on to study at the Royal College of Music. She has gained valuable experience playing with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and has performed at prestigious venues such as the Musikverein and La Scala as part of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra.

The Jerwood Pit Perfect programme, made possible by the generosity of the Jerwood Foundation, provides young instrumentalists like Alsey with their first professional operatic experience. This year's Encounters feature two programmes, each showcasing a range of classical pieces, including Mozart's String Quartet in G K156 and Rossini's String Sonata No. 2 in A.

The Encounters will take place at the Jerwood Studio, Glyndebourne, in Glynde, from Saturday, 31 October 2026, to Saturday, 7 November 2026. Tickets are with the button beside the article. The programme offers a unique opportunity to hear talented young musicians perform alongside the Glyndebourne Sinfonia, making it a worthwhile experience for classical music enthusiasts.
