Edge Exhibition Explores Land Sea Connections
A new exhibition at Hastings Contemporary explores the interconnected ecosystems of land and sea, featuring works by renowned artists including Andy Goldsworthy. The exhibition invites visitors to discover the intricate relationships between forests, oceans, and human cultures.

The exhibition EDGE, which opens on Saturday, 24 October 2026, at Hastings Contemporary in Hastings, is a groundbreaking showcase of over 40 works that delve into the complex relationships between land and sea ecosystems. By exploring the edge where these two worlds meet, the exhibition reveals the intricate networks of fungi, microbes, water, carbon, and nutrients that sustain life on our planet. Through a range of media, including painting, photography, film, sculpture, and installation, visitors will be able to experience the interconnectedness of forests, kelp, soils, and oceans, as well as the impact of human cultures on the natural world.
One of the featured artists, Andy Goldsworthy, is a renowned English sculptor, photographer, and environmentalist, known for his site-specific sculptures and land art. With a career spanning over five decades, Goldsworthy has worked with a range of natural materials, from leaves and ice to stone and mud, to create temporary and often ephemeral works that highlight the beauty and fragility of the natural world. His work has been exhibited internationally, and he has been recognized for his contributions to the arts, including being appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2000.
The exhibition is co-curated with The Land Gardeners, who have previously presented the acclaimed exhibition SOIL at Somerset House in 2025. By bringing together the work of over 40 artists, including Aimée Parrott, Andrew Merritt, and Andy Goldsworthy, EDGE offers a unique perspective on the interconnectedness of our planet's ecosystems and the importance of sustainability and environmental awareness. The exhibition will run until Sunday, 3 January 2027, and tickets are with the button beside the article.
The exhibition's focus on the interconnectedness of land and sea ecosystems is particularly relevant in today's world, where environmental awareness and sustainability are increasingly important. By showcasing the work of artists who are passionate about highlighting the beauty and fragility of the natural world, EDGE offers a powerful reminder of the need to protect and preserve our planet's ecosystems for future generations. With its unique blend of art, science, and environmentalism, the exhibition is sure to inspire visitors to think differently about the natural world and our place within it.
