Mosaic Triangle was formed in August 2023 for the Rye Jazz and Blues Festival, bringing together three seasoned East Sussex jazz musicians. The band consists of Lynda Murray on saxes, Paul Whitten on double bass, and Yair Katz on drums. Murray, who has lived in Hastings since 1986, is the band leader and a saxophonist and composer who has played mainly modern jazz and her own compositions. She has a long history of collaboration with Whitten, who has been a permanent member of the band and has worked with Murray for over 20 years.

The band's members have a wide range of influences and experiences that shape their music. Murray names John Coltrane, Michael Brecker, and Chris Potter as influences on her playing and writing, while Whitten has played with Terry Seabrook's Milestones and the Adrian York Trio. Katz, a registered music therapist and multi-instrumentalist, has contributed to over 40 albums in New Zealand and the UK and performed at several WOMAD festivals. This diverse range of influences and experiences brings a unique sound to the band's music, which is both accessible and highly enjoyable.

Mosaic Triangle has been actively performing since their formation, playing at various festivals and venues in East Sussex, including the Sanctuary Festival, Hidden Beach Festival, and Sound Waves Festival. They have also regularly played at Barnaby's Jazz Lounge and have recorded five tracks, with plans to record more in 2026. Murray enjoys the challenge of writing for a line-up without piano or guitar, which allows the band to create a distinctive and innovative sound.

On Wednesday, 4 November 2026, Mosaic Triangle will perform at The Grapevine in Rye, bringing their unique sound and energetic performance to the venue. Tickets and details for the event are available with the button beside this article.
