Prem Sahib: Chamber

Prem Sahib: Chamber

31 Oct 2026 – 3 Jan 2027

De La Warr Pavilion (Bexhill-on-Sea)

Prem Sahib's work often starts with everyday objects like doors, clothing, and heaters, but removed from their usual settings, these objects can take on different meanings. The Chamber exhibition at De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea brings together over twenty years of Sahib's career, featuring works that alter, displace, or present familiar materials and objects in unexpected ways.

• Thresholds are a recurring theme throughout the exhibition, blurring the lines between public and private, inside and outside, and visibility and concealment. • Mirrors, screens, clothing, light, and sound create different forms of encounter, drawing attention to the traces carried by objects and surfaces. • The exhibition's title, Chamber, has multiple meanings, evoking intimate and private spaces, authority and law, sound and echo, and the anatomy of the heart.

As a queer British artist of Polish and Indian heritage, Prem Sahib's work is informed by their experiences and explores the architecture of public and private spaces. With a background in sculpture, installation, performance, and sound, Sahib's practice has recently expanded into immersive installations referencing the gay club scene. The Chamber exhibition will run from Saturday, 31 October 2026, to Sunday, 3 January 2027, at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea. Tickets are with the button beside the article.
