As the Bayeux Tapestry makes its long-awaited return to Britain in London for the first time in almost 1,000 years, there has never been a better moment to explore the story of 1066 in the town where history was made. At The Crown Hastings, come along and taste our take on the food and drink of the year 1066, in the town where it happened. Through an ever-changing specials menu running throughout the year, expect dishes inspired by ingredients and cooking methods of the time, including rabbit, potage, ale, herbs and warming spices. Our chefs will delve into the history books, drawing on medieval recipes, local produce and traditional techniques to recreate the flavours of the era. While not a strict historical re-enactment, each dish will offer a glimpse into the foods that may have been eaten by Norman and Saxon alike in the months surrounding the Battle of Hastings. Expect a unique dining experience that brings history to the table, celebrating Hastings' remarkable past through food, drink and storytelling.
