In 1930s New York, during the height of the Depression, a young violinist named Joe Bonaparte is lured into the world of professional boxing. As Joe navigates this brutal new world, he must confront what he is willing to sacrifice and who he is willing to become in order to succeed. The play explores themes of ambition, identity, and the high cost of success, all set to the sound of a live string quartet.
Following a sold-out run in London, this production of Clifford Odets' classic play is now being broadcast live from the Almeida Theatre, directed by Olivier Award-winner Sam Yates.
