National Theatre Live: Golden Boy (Encore)

Dir: Sam Yates
Cast: Josh O’Connor
In 1930s New York, at the height of the Depression, a gifted young violinist named Joe Bonaparte is lured into the brutal world of professional boxing. He must confront what he’s willing to sacrifice and who he’s willing to become in a world that demands he choose a side. The play is a searing revival of Clifford Odets’ American classic, brought to life with a live string quartet and filmed live from the Almeida Theatre. Directed by Olivier Award-winner Sam Yates, this propulsive drama explores ambition, identity, and the high price of success.
Joe Bonaparte’s journey is one of self-discovery, as he navigates the harsh realities of his new career and the consequences of his choices. With its thought-provoking themes and intense drama, Golden Boy is a gripping production that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
