The film tells the story of Joan Webster, a headstrong young city girl who sets off to marry a rich older man on his remote Hebridean island. However, stormy weather leaves her stranded on a neighbouring isle, where she meets Torquil MacNeil and her plans are set awry. The story is a romance that explores the themes of love, class, and identity. The film features a natural and palpable chemistry between the leads, as well as a colourful and charming cast of supporting characters. The sound design and cinematography are also notable, capturing the natural landscapes and stormy sea, and putting the viewer at the heart of the story. The film is a poignant reminder that even the best-laid plans can go dramatically wrong, but maybe they ought to.
