Hastings Chamber Music Festival - Elmore String Quartet: Unfurling (picture: Kino-Teatr)

Curated by violinist Jane Gordon, this year’s ‘Transfiguration’ programme features outstanding international artists, rising talent and extraordinary music shaped by change, reflection, conflict and pacifism. The Elmore String Quartet played with the ferocity of musicians determined to make an impact. Music by Haydn, Bridge, Ravel, ’Unfurling’ Leo Geyer. Haydn’s Op. 74/1 opens a programme that celebrates the extraordinary range and imagination of the string quartet. Leo Geyer’s new work, Unfurling, brings a fresh contemporary voice to the programme, while Bridge’s evocative setting of ‘Londonderry Air’ offers a brief glimpse into his deeply personal response to the world around him. At its heart is Ravel’s extraordinary String Quartet, a work of colour, imagination and astonishing refinement, and one of the great masterpieces of the repertoire. Winners of the prestigious Royal Over-Seas League International Music Competition (2026), the Elmore Quartet are quickly gaining recognition as one of the leading British Quartets of their generation. Full Programme: Haydn op.74/1, ‘Unfurling’ Leo Geyer, Bridge ‘Londonderry Air’, Ravel String Quartet. + Artists in Conversation: Meet the musicians and composer Leo Geyer in a pre-concert talk.
